Never standing still…

September 8th, 2008 by Chrissy

I hate to disappoint, folks… I just don’t have the energy to write in two separate blogs! Too much of a good thing is a little overwhelming, don’t you think?

Ah, but don’t be too sad! I still have tons of crafty, tasty, photo-y goodness up my sleeve! I’ll just be doing it all at my main blog: KITTYBUTTS.ORG.

Please feel free to change your links. The archives of this blog will continue to remain right here at this blog. Thanks everyone!

Pig life is good life…

April 21st, 2008 by Chrissy

A couple of shots from my weekend at my grandma’s house. She was away for a few days, so I stayed to take care of her pigs, chickens, turkey, and cats. These were my two favorite shots.

Busy eating heads of romaine lettuce.

After a romp through the mud.

They’re so adorable. Quite affectionate, too. They love to sit there and be scratched behind the ears for hours on end. :)

My first journey into hand dyeing…

April 12th, 2008 by Chrissy

I tried my hand at dyeing my own yarn this week. I used Kool-Aid! Four packets of cherry, three packets of orange, and seven packets of lemonade. I’m so happy with how it turned out.

I used Knit Picks Bare Peruvian Highland Wool yarn, fingering weight.

Getting started.

Setting out in the sun so the heat can help the color set. The jars were hot to the touch an hour or so later.

After the first dyeing and rinse. The colors were bright and vibrant, but I wanted them a bit deeper, so I dyed them again later that night.

Time for yellow!

The finished product!

I love it. Lovelovelove it! The colors are so bright, vibrant, and cheerful. Plus, it smells amazing.

I decided to name the colorway Fire Swoops, after an accidental photo I took of a bonfire.

I’m making it into socks. :D

Knit Hat
Sock cuffs make great hats for cats.

All in all, I’m really pleased with my new yarn. I’m really excited to dye more! I already bought more Kool-Aid (in grape, lemon-lime, and berry blue) for hand dyeing adventures in the future. I’ll probably order some more of that Knit Picks yarn next week.

SNOW! AIEEEEE!

There are a few more shots over here in my Flickr.

Sorry for a lack in craft or food type entries. I’ve been busy! So I’ll make up for it right now!

I almost have sock #1 done on the pair I’m making for my grandma, which are currently being referred to as the Step Into Spring Socks. I’ve decided to carry the ribbing of the cuff all the way down the foot of the sock to the toe. Coming out beautifully. Here’s a picture I took of the cuff sometime last week:

The cuff is much longer now and I have the heel and gusset done. Just have to finish up the rest of the foot (shouldn’t take me too long) and I’ll be done! And then I’ll start again. Which kind of sucks because I like instant gratification (who doesn’t?) and wearing one sock while I knit the other just doesn’t cut it. Haha!

Earlier this week I made chocolate mint chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies for my famly. They were a HUGE hit and are now gone. Devoured.

I only ate a couple of ‘em. I’m proud of myself.

So I celebrated with a beer. ;)

Sights to see…

March 31st, 2008 by Chrissy

My parents and I went on a mini road trip today. We went to Saguaro Lake for a picnic and just to get out of the house.

Two toned sock…

March 24th, 2008 by Chrissy

I didn’t finish those Easter socks for my grandma. The most I got done was maybe four or five rows. I was too busy cooking the food for Easter dinner… then eating the Easter dinner… then visiting with family after the Easter dinner… and then cleaning up after the Easter dinner. No time to knit in there at all. Oh, well. I’ll finish them by the end of the week, just in time for my dad to deliver them to her.

So here are those pictures of the finished two toned sock I promised.

Two Toned Socks: One Down, One to Go (by tricycles)
The toe is my favorite part, I think. I kind of screwed up on it. I started working the toe decreases before remembering to change the yarn color. Instead of the whole toe being in the contrasting color, only the very tip got it. I was a little disappointed at first, but it grew on me after I grafted the toe.

I should have made the ankle part longer. Much, much longer.

Yes, it needs to be longer.

Despite the length, however, I’m happy with it. I’m looking forward to completing the pair.

Menagerie…

March 22nd, 2008 by Chrissy

I’ve been busy with a lot of stuff. Knitting, playing outside with my dog in the nice weather, playing inside with my cats, getting back on track and exercising, and just generally spending time away from the computer. Here’s a quick photo-heavy post for y’all.

First off, I have an adorable dog:

Waiting for me to throw a tennis ball.

That smile melts my heart into a thousand puddles. This dog has pounds of personality packed into every ounce of her body.

Secondly, I have been obsessed with peas lately. They’ve always been one of my favorite vegetables, but I feel like I can’t get enough of them lately. I’ve had peas as part of my lunch every day this week.

This photo came out really art-y fart-y. Peas are very artistic vegetables.

Healthy Lunch (by tricycles)
Have y’all tried those Laughing Cow light cheese wedge things yet? They are like crack. So delicious. And only 35 calories. Hot damn. That’s a delicious cheese snack I can get behind!

Lastly, here’s a pair of socks I’m working on for my grandma. I hope I have them done in time to give them to her tomorrow. She’ll be here for Easter dindins.

I hope she likes the colors as much as I do.

They’re made with that Guacamole (hehe, it still cracks me up!) yarn I talked about in this entry.

I completed one of the two toned socks a few days ago, but I decided to get this pair completed first so that they would done by Easter. I’ll update with pictures of the finished two toned sock soon. It has a few mistakes, but I really like how it came out.

And with that, I must be off! That spinach dip isn’t going to make itself, now is it? ;) Have a safe and fun Easter!

Yay for Spring…

Hip-Hip-Hooray! (by tricycles)

Damn me…

March 15th, 2008 by Chrissy

…and my yarn addiction!

Stash: Mirasol Cotanani (by tricycles)
Picked up two skeins of Mirasol’s Cotanani from my local yarn store (I finally found one! YAY!). It’s made of 60% Pima cotton and 40% merino wool. Color is called Burgundy. This yarn is luxuriously soft and beautiful. I think it will become a scarf. Not entirely sure yet, but that’s what it is whispering in my ear. She wants to be a scarf. Yes, this yarn is now a she. BECAUSE I SAID SO, THAT’S WHY. *ahem*

Got some work done on my two toned socks. I’ve been working on them off and on. Been busy doing housework and whatnot. Anyway, I just finished the heel flap and getting ready to start working the gussets. Really loving how these are turning out.

Two Toned Socks: Heel Flap (by tricycles)
The cuff, heel, and toes will be in Pidgeon Twist (the purple) and the body will be in Mist. All in Wool of the Andes yarn from Knit Picks.

That’s all I have for updates right now. Hopefully I’ll be finished with at least one sock by the next blog entry. Haha.

ETA: Mike says I’m not allowed to buy any yarn until I actually finish a project. ;) Boo!

I feel bad calling it “salad…”

March 13th, 2008 by Chrissy

Weeks of healthy eating have been destroyed. We had Caesar salad and homemade pizza for dinner tonight. It was the farthest thing from healthy eating that I’ve had in a long time. I suppose I can write it off as a treat, but even that feels guilty and sinful. ;)

salad.jpg
I should call it the anti-salad.

unbaked_pizza.jpg
All made up and ready to hit the oven.

pizza.jpg
OMFG, look at that cheese. LOOK AT THAT CHEESE!

pizza_2.jpg
That pepperoni is giving me “The Eye.” Slutty sausage of delicious doom!

It looks greasy… and it was. I tried sopping up the extra grease with a napkin. It was a vain attempt, but an attempt nonetheless. Still, it wasn’t as greasy as the cesspools you get from Pizza Hut.

Needless to say, I’ll be working this off double time tomorrow. It was MORE than worth it, though. ;)
